AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC 4M series is a 5/2 pilot-operated NAMUR solenoid valve that bolts straight to the actuator side plate face - no interconnecting tubing - in three body sizes spanning Cv 0.6 to 1.65.
inventory_2117 models availableThe 4M series is AirTAC's 5-port, 2-position (5/2) solenoid valve built to the NAMUR interface. Instead of sitting on a manifold with tubing running out to the actuator, it mounts on the side plate face of the actuator and connects directly - that interface is the whole point of the series. Internally piloted, spool-type construction gives quick response and good sealing, and the spool bore is machined by a special process, so friction is low, starting pressure is low and service life is long.
Three body sizes cover the range. The 4M1 (100 series) offers M5 and 1/8" ports at Cv 0.6; the 4M2 (200 series) offers 1/8" and 1/4" ports at Cv 1.0; the 4M3 (300 series) offers 1/4" and 3/8" ports at Cv 1.65. On some models the inlet and exhaust ports are different sizes - for example inlet PT1/4 with exhaust PT1/8 - so always read the port pair for the exact code you order.
All versions share the same specification envelope: 0.15-0.8 MPa (21-114 psi), -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um or finer, IP65 (DIN 40050), manual override for commissioning, and no lubrication required. Coils are available in AC220V, AC110V, AC24V, DC24V and DC12V, with a DIN plug connector or flying lead (code I) entry. Note the pressure ceiling is 0.8 MPa - this series does not reach the 1.0 MPa of many other AirTAC valve lines, so size your supply accordingly.

A 4M310-08 (Cv 1.65) bolted to the NAMUR pad of a rack-and-pinion actuator drives a plant ball valve between open and closed, with the spring-return single-solenoid version returning the valve to a safe state on power loss.
On packaging and filling lines, 4M2 valves (1/8"-1/4" ports, Cv 1.0) mount directly on the actuator they control, cutting tubing runs; double-solenoid versions hold the last position through brief control interruptions.
AC24V and DC24V coil options with DIN plug entry suit building control panels; the manual override lets a commissioning engineer stroke the actuator before the control wiring is live.
AirTAC fits the 4M valve at the factory onto SAIF and SAUF valve-type cylinders, so an OEM buys a cylinder with its 5/2 valve already integrated - see the valve-type cylinder family.
Start with flow and port size. Cv 0.6 (4M1, M5 or 1/8") suits small actuators and short runs; Cv 1.0 (4M2, 1/8"-1/4") is the mid choice; Cv 1.65 (4M3, 1/4"-3/8") serves larger actuators where speed matters. Then decide the function, which is a safety decision rather than a preference: a 10-code single-solenoid valve springs back to its rest position when power is lost, while a 20-code double-solenoid valve has no spring and holds the last commanded position after the coil de-energises. Match the coil to your panel (AC220, AC110, AC24, DC24, DC12), pick DIN plug or flying lead (I) entry, and set the thread - PT, G or NPT - except on M5 ports, where there is no thread code.
Before ordering, confirm five points: body series and port pair (checking inlet and exhaust sizes, which differ on some models), single or double solenoid, voltage, electrical entry, and thread. If the valve must be manifold or base mounted with tubing instead, step across to the AirTAC 4V series; for single-acting cylinders use the 3-port 3V series; for water or other fluids, the 2W / 2L / 2KL valves. Because the air must be filtered to 40 um or finer, put a GF / GFR / GAF / GAFR filter upstream.
Quick checklist
Published Cv figures are 0.6 for the 4M110-06 and 4M120-06 (M5 or 1/8" ports), 1.0 for the 4M210-08 and 4M220-08 (1/8"-1/4" ports) and 1.65 for the 4M310-08 and 4M320-10 (1/4"-3/8" ports). Pick the size from the actuator volume and required stroke speed; response time is not listed in our summary data, so confirm it from the datasheet if your cycle is critical.
A 10-code valve has one coil and a spring, so it returns to its rest position whenever power is removed - the safe choice for fail-to-position duties such as closing a valve. A 20-code valve has two coils and no spring, so it remembers and holds the last commanded state after the coil de-energises. This is a safety decision: decide what must happen on power loss before choosing the code.
Working range is 0.15-0.8 MPa (21-114 psi) at -20 to +70 C - do not assume the 1.0 MPa rating of some other AirTAC valve series. Power draw is published per model: 4M1 coils take 3.5 VA on AC220/AC110, 4.0 VA on AC24, 2.8 W on DC24 and 2.5 W on DC12; the larger 4M2/4M3 coils take 4.5 VA on AC220/AC110, 5.0 VA on AC24, 3.0 W on DC24 and 2.5 W on DC12. Voltages are AC220V (A), DC24V (B), AC110V (C), AC24V (E) and DC12V (F).
Every 4M valve we ship is genuine AirTAC product from an authorized export seller, ordered by the catalogue code 4M{series}{solenoid}-{port}{voltage}{entry}{thread} - for example 4M31008A or 4M21008AI. The store lists standard models and confirms lead time on request. If you need a base- or manifold-mounted 5/2 valve instead of the NAMUR direct-mount format, the AirTAC 4V series is the neighbouring family.
