AirTAC Pneumatics
The AirTAC MI series is a stainless-steel round-body mini air cylinder spanning 8-40 mm bores, built for compact automation where space and mild corrosion resistance matter.
inventory_21916 models availableThe AirTAC MI series features a stainless-steel barrel and piston rod with riveted and rolled construction. It is a double-acting round-body mini cylinder, not a tie-rod or extruded-profile design. The base MI uses fixed TPU bumper pads at both ends to decelerate the piston near stroke end. It is not an adjustable air cushion and does not hold position if air pressure is lost.
The bore range spans 8 to 40 mm across 8 sizes: 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32 and 40. Rod diameter ranges from 4 mm on the 8 mm bore up to 16 mm on the 40 mm bore. Ports scale from M5x0.8 on bores 8-12, to 1/8 inch on bores 16-25, and 1/4 inch on bores 32-40. Standard max stroke is 150 mm for bore 8, 200 mm for bore 10, 250 mm for bore 12, and 500 mm for bores 16-40.
Force output scales with bore size. At 0.5 MPa, push force spans about 25 N on the 8 mm bore up to 628 N on the 40 mm bore. The theoretical max force at 1.0 MPa spans about 5 kgf to 128 kgf. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa, proof pressure is 1.5 MPa, and the temperature range is -20 to +70 C. The series uses 40 um filtered air and operates at speeds of 30-800 mm/s. An -S magnet option supports CMSG, DMSG and EMSG sensors.
The MI series conforms to the ISO 6432 mounting standard for bores 8-25 only. Bores 32 and 40 are larger, non-ISO-6432 round-body sizes. Related variants include the MIC for adjustable air cushions (bores 16-40), MID for double rods, and MIJ for adjustable stroke. For single-acting push or pull needs, see the MSI and MTI series. For an aluminum-barrel alternative, see the MBL series.

The compact 8-25 mm ISO 6432 bores fit easily within conveyor frames to actuate lightweight sorting flaps and pusher gates in packaging lines.
The stainless-steel construction and fixed TPU bumpers suit small-bore 8-16 mm cylinders used in medical and lab sample handling where mild corrosion resistance is needed.
High cycle speeds up to 800 mm/s allow 20-40 mm bore cylinders to drive precise paper feeding and registration mechanisms in printing equipment.
The 32 and 40 mm non-ISO bores provide higher force up to 628 N at 0.5 MPa to eject finished parts from packaging molds without requiring a full-size profile cylinder.
Choose the bore based on your load and available air pressure. At 0.5 MPa, an 8 mm bore provides about 25 N of push force, while a 40 mm bore provides 628 N. Select the stroke based on travel distance, respecting the max standard stroke limits (150 mm for bore 8 up to 500 mm for bores 16-40). Pick the MI for standard double-acting motion with fixed TPU bumpers. If your application requires precise end-deceleration of heavy loads, step up to the MIC variant for adjustable air cushions (available on bores 16-40). If you need anti-rotation or equal force in two directions, consider the MID double-rod variant.
If you need a cylinder that strictly meets ISO 6432 dimensions, limit your selection to bores 8-25. Bores 32 and 40 are non-ISO sizes. For lighter-duty applications where weight or cost is a concern, the aluminum-barrel MBL series is a neighboring alternative. When submitting an RFQ, confirm these 5 points: 1) bore size, 2) stroke length, 3) port thread size and type (PT or G), 4) mounting accessory (LB foot, FA flange, SDB pivot-block, TC trunnion, or covers CA, U, R, CM), and 5) whether you need the -S magnet option for position sensing.
Quick checklist
The MI series spans 8 bores from 8 to 40 mm. Rod diameter ranges from 4 mm to 16 mm. At 0.5 MPa, push force spans about 25 N on the 8 mm bore up to 628 N on the 40 mm bore. The theoretical max force at 1.0 MPa spans about 5 kgf to 128 kgf. Max standard stroke is 150 mm for bore 8, up to 500 mm for bores 16-40.
The base MI is double-acting with fixed TPU bumper pads. The MIC variant adds adjustable air cushions for better deceleration on bores 16-40. The MID variant uses a double rod for anti-rotation or equal force in two directions. The MIJ variant offers adjustable stroke length. Single-acting push and pull needs are met by the MSI and MTI series.
The MI series conforms to the ISO 6432 mounting standard for bores 8-25 only. Bores 32 and 40 are larger, non-ISO-6432 round-body sizes. If a strict ISO 6432 interface is required for your mounting hardware, limit your selection to the 8-25 mm bore range.
No. The MI is a double-acting air cylinder and does not hold position when pressure is lost. The fixed TPU bumper pads only decelerate the piston near the stroke end; they do not act as a lock, hold or brake. If load holding is required, you must use a mechanical lock, rod brake or pilot check valve.
