A 3/2 valve has three ports — supply, outlet and exhaust — and two states. It either feeds the outlet or vents it to exhaust, and that is the whole job.
That makes it the right valve for a single-acting (spring-return) cylinder, on/off air blow, a clamp, switching a vacuum generator or suction cup, and piloting a larger valve.
It cannot run a double-acting cylinder. A double-acting cylinder needs air alternately on two sides, which takes a 5-port valve — the AirTAC 4V series.
An in-circuit test fixture closes twenty spring-return clamps around a PCB; each clamp line gets its own 3/2 station on the island, so the fixture is wired and serviced from one manifold.
A distribution-centre sorter diverts parcels across many chutes; groups of gate cylinders are driven station by station, and a failed gate is isolated and swapped on the shared island.
An automatic screwdriving turret powers its part-present sensor jet and small hold-down clamps from one island, switching each line between feed and exhaust within the cycle.
Flow is the one figure this island cannot promise: AirTAC states no Cv or effective-area value for 3V1, so a 20-station bank on a flow-sensitive duty deserves a sizing check with us first.
