This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X100-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X100-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X100-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X100-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This cylinder is double acting, so air both extends and retracts the 6 mm rod, and its -20 code adds a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 100 mm extend stroke on site to any setting from 80 to 100 mm. Bore 12 delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 100 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so this unit is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits cramped jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end to soften end-of-travel contact. The -S magnet is fitted on this model, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the body. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; ACEJ12X100 is the current-production drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a sizing rule, keep real work near 34 N (about 60% of the push rating), which corresponds to lifting roughly 3.4 kg vertically.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X100-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X100-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 80-100 mm adjustable extend stroke lets a technician dial in exactly how far a light plastic or aluminium part is pushed off a nest, with 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa enough for parts under about 3.4 kg equivalent load.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches clamp to the body to confirm extend and retract on a compact lab or QC fixture where the short body must fit inside tight guarding.
A PCB or connector cover needs only a few tens of newtons to hold; the stop screw trims the stroke so the pad just contacts the work, and the TPU bumpers soften each end of travel at 30-500 mm/s.
At bore 12 you get 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa; if your load needs more, bore 16 reaches 100.5 N and bore 20 reaches 157.1 N at the same pressure. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 20 mm window and does not lock the piston, so on air loss the rod can still drift - do not use it to hold a load mid-stroke. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Since ACPJ is discontinued, order ACEJ12X100 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, fluid air filtered to 40 um. The port is M5x0.8, the rod is 6 mm with a female M3x0.5 thread, and the -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window on the 100 mm stroke.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 20 mm window, so the usable range is 80-100 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 100 mm, and it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock. The ACPJ family is discontinued: ACEJ12X100 is the current-production replacement in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
