This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X100-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X100-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X100-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X100-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X100-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 100 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 80-100 mm on site. Air pushes the rod out and pulls it back, so no spring is involved. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N of push force, enough to index small fixtures and light clamps at 30-500 mm/s. Note that the 100 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so this unit is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim jigs and guard panels where a full-length body will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries M5x0.8 ports, and the male rod thread (B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles. Because the -S magnet is fitted on this model, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body. This ACPJ series is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X100, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a sizing rule, halve the 5.8 kgf thrust equivalent and plan to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X100-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X100-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Clamps small aluminium brackets in a compact drilling jig, using the 80-100 mm trim range to set the exact clamp position without shimming.
Ejects lightweight plastic caps from a conveyor lane, with CMSE reed switches confirming extend and retract on the fitted -S magnet.
Slides a sample tray about 2.9 kg or less between two test stations inside a slim instrument housing where a profile body will not fit.
Bore 12 is the smallest in the family: 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa. If your load stalls near that figure, step up to bore 16 for 100.5 N push at the same pressure. The -20 window only shortens the extend stroke to a minimum of 80 mm; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. Match FA flange or LB foot brackets to the ISO 21287 face, and remember the magnet here is the optional -S code carried by this model, enabling CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order ACEJ12X100 instead, since this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with proof pressure of 1.5 MPa (215 psi), running on air filtered to 40 um at 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code sets a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 100 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 80 mm, but it never lengthens it past 100 mm. The stop is a positioning end stop, not a load-holding brake, so the rod can drift on air loss. A fixed TPU bumper decelerates the piston at each end. This model is discontinued; ACEJ12X100 is the current drop-in, so verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
