This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X100-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X100-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X100-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X100-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X100-40S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable stroke: an external stop screw trims the 100 mm extend stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 60-100 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body.
Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs, guarding and gantries. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M3x0.5 thread and M5x0.8 ports. Note the 100 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order build. In practical terms the rod lifts about 2.9 kg vertically once a 2:1 margin is applied, and planning around 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa keeps the actuator comfortably inside its rating. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X100, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X100-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X100-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60-100 mm trim range lets a molding shop dial the eject stroke to clear a shallow cavity, with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light sprue and part knock-off.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm clamp or present position on an electronics test bench, while the stop screw sets repeatable part seating within the 40 mm window.
The rod lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin, suiting sample trays or sensor heads in compact diagnostic equipment where the short body saves roughly half the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
Size against the load: bore 12 gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while bore 16 reaches 100.5 N and bore 20 reaches 157.1 N at the same pressure - step up if your tooling mass or friction exceeds about 34 N of usable force here. The stop screw shortens the extend stroke only; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects order the ACEJ12X100, the current drop-in successor.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore has M5x0.8 ports and a female M3x0.5 rod thread, runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, covers -20 to +70 C at 30-500 mm/s, and carries fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. The 100 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because bore 12 tops out at 50 mm as standard.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere within 60-100 mm, though it cannot lengthen travel past the ordered 100 mm and it does not hold a load if air is lost. This ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X100, a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
