This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X100-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X100-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X100-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 100mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X100-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X100-40SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -40 stop screw trims the 100 mm stroke anywhere inside a 40 mm window, giving a usable range of 60-100 mm. Air works on both faces of the 12 mm piston, so the rod extends with 56.5 N and retracts with 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N on the push stroke at 0.7 MPa. The 100 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard limit for bore 12, so this unit is a made-to-order build. Note that this ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production successor is the ACEJ12X100, and buyers should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim jigs, small gating brackets and cramped test fixtures. In practice, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rated push), and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically once a 2:1 margin is applied. The -S code on this model means the position magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, the S45C rod carries a hard-chrome finish with a male thread, and speed runs 30-500 mm/s across 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X100-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X100-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×100 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 60-100 mm adjustable window and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suit small sample-clamping actuators on bench-top leak and fatigue rigs where every millimetre of length counts.
With about 34 N of practical working force and a 6 mm male-thread rod, this cylinder punches tiny stamped or moulded parts out of shallow nests in electronics assembly tooling.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm gate open/closed states on small diverters and inspection shutters, with the stop screw set anywhere from 60 to 100 mm of travel.
Bore 12 is the smallest in this family: at 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, so if your load needs more, step up to bore 16 (100.5 N push) or bore 20 (157.1 N push) in the same compact envelope. The -40 adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold a load if air pressure is lost, so add a separate locking valve where that matters. This version has a male rod thread (B) and PT ports; FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. If you are designing new tooling, specify the ACEJ12X100 instead, as the ACPJ line is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 60 and 100 mm. The 100 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because bore 12 tops out at 50 mm as a standard stroke. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s.
It is a short-body compact cylinder whose hard-anodized aluminium body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and an M5x0.8 port. The -S magnet on this unit accepts CMSE and DMSE switches for end-position sensing. The ACPJ family is no longer in production: order the ACEJ12X100, the current ISO 21287 drop-in in the same bore and stroke class, and confirm the mounting dimensions against your fixture before the swap.
