This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X120-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke down by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 100-120 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its 120 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X120.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim pick-and-place heads and guarded test rigs. A rule of thumb: about 34 N (roughly 3.4 kgf) of push is realistically usable at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.8 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The B code gives a male M3x0.5 rod thread, the port is M5x0.8, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. No magnet is fitted, so no position switch can be mounted; order the -S code for that. Running spec: 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), 30-500 mm/s, -20 to +70 C.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

The ACEJ12X120-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa ejects sample trays from a compact analytical tester, with the 100-120 mm trim range matching shallow drawer travel.
A light push of about 34 N usable force releases finished circuit boards from a test nest inside a tight gantry where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
The male M3x0.5 rod thread drives a small kicker paddle that diverts pharmaceutical vials on a sorting line at 30-500 mm/s.
At 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and sensing moves; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) if the load is near the 34 N usable limit, or down from the 20 mm bore (157.1 N) if you are oversizing. The 20 mm adjustment window only shortens the extend stroke, it never holds a load on air loss, so add an external stop where position must be kept. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since this unit is discontinued, order ACEJ12X120 as the drop-in and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first, because ACP follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window, so the 120 mm extend stroke can be trimmed anywhere in a 100-120 mm range using the stop screw. The 120 mm stroke is non-standard for this bore (standard maximum is 50 mm), so it is made to order. The model is discontinued; ACEJ12X120 is the current replacement.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod is about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end that only decelerates the piston near the ends. Mounting uses the ISO 21287 face: FA/FB flange or LB foot. This unit has no magnet fitted, so CMSE or DMSE switches cannot be used; the optional -S magnet code enables them. Replacement is ACEJ12X120 - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
