This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the discontinued ACPJ12X120-20S runs air to both faces of its 12 mm piston, so the rod extends and retracts under power. A stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere within the ordered 20 mm window, giving a usable range of 100-120 mm on this made-to-order stroke. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N of real work (about 0.6 of the push figure), which is around 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guard rails. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped on for end-of-stroke signals. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the female M3x0.5 rod thread plus M5x0.8 ports keep plumbing simple. This model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X120, and you should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects finished watch or connector components from a fixture with 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa, trimmed to a 100-120 mm extend range by the 20 mm stop window.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the rod position of this 120 mm stroke inside a vision-check enclosure where space is tight.
Holds thin film stock flat on a labelling head; the 3 kg vertical-lift equivalent covers light hold-down duty at 30-500 mm/s cycle speeds.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light clamping, ejecting and sorting of small parts. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure if the load is heavier. The 120 mm stroke is non-standard for this bore (50 mm is the standard maximum), so it is made to order. The 20 mm window only shortens the extend stroke; it is a mechanical stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Since this unit is discontinued, order ACEJ12X120 as the drop-in successor and verify the mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof rating, on air filtered to 40 um, running 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 100-120 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop only, not a load-holding brake. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
