This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, so air both extends and retracts the 6 mm rod, and its -20 code adds a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 120 mm extend stroke down to 100 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for the 12 mm bore, so this unit is made to order. It is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X120.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped directly to the hard-anodized aluminium body. The S45C hard-chrome rod ends in a male thread (B code) and the ports are M5x0.8. For real-world sizing, plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note the stop screw sets the end of travel only; on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding brake.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100-120 mm adjustable reach nudges finished electronics or watch components off a nest, with the 56.5 N push ample for parts under 30 g.
With the fitted -S magnet, CMSE switches confirm the rod has reached the trimmed 100 mm stop before a probe cycle starts.
About 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa holds blister lids or labels flat during a sealing pass, and the short body fits the compact head.
At 56.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and positioning; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) if you need roughly double the force, or down only if your load is under about 34 N. The male rod thread (B) pairs with I/Y knuckles, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. The fitted -S magnet lets you add CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke signalling. Before ordering, confirm the ACEJ12X120 replacement matches your fixture, since the ACP is DIN-standard and mounting dimensions should be checked against the ISO 21287 datasheet.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs double acting on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends and an M5x0.8 port. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order size above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -20 code gives a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke to any length from 100 to 120 mm. It sets the end of travel only and does not hold a load if air is lost. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X120 (swap the P for an E), which shares the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
