This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 100-120 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa. Its 120 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X120.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it fits slim slides and tight guards. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M3x0.5 thread. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. No magnet is fitted; order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 100-120 mm adjustable range clears a molded cap or bushing off the core pin, with 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa enough for light parts.
Order the -S magnet version to add CMSE / DMSE switches and confirm a fixture has reached the set stroke; this base model has no magnet fitted.
About 34 N of practical force at 0.5 MPa presses a board onto pogo-pin contacts without stressing components, inside a compact gantry.
At 56.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and small part ejection. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold a load if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the -S magnet code enables CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects, specify ACEJ12X120 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C. The 120 mm stroke is a non-standard, made-to-order length since the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
The -20 code sets a 20 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 100 and 120 mm, but it cannot lengthen the stroke past 120 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. The ACPJ is discontinued; the drop-in successor is ACEJ12X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
