This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-30SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-30SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-30SB

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-30SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-30SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-30SB

Double acting with an adjustable stroke, the ACPJ12X120-30SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: a 12 mm bore drives a 6 mm rod through 120 mm of stroke, and the -30 stop screw trims the extend stroke by up to 30 mm on site, giving a usable range of 90-120 mm. Air at 0.5 MPa delivers 56.5 N on the push stroke and 42.4 N on the pull stroke, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. The 120 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped to the body for end-of-travel sensing.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. For sizing, treat about 0.6 of the push force as usable work at 0.5 MPa, roughly 34 N, which corresponds to lifting about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston; it never locks or holds a load, and on air loss the piston drifts. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-30SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-30SB Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Small-part ejection from a plastic mold

The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick light molded clips off a tool face, and the 90-120 mm adjustable range lets the operator dial the eject position without shimming.

sensors

Gantry pick head with position feedback

The fitted magnet accepts CMSE or DMSE switches, so a PCB-handling gantry can confirm the 6 mm rod is fully extended before the vacuum cup releases.

compress

Light clamping on an electronics test bench

About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa holds a small sensor housing against a test fixture, and the male rod thread takes a knuckle for angled clamp arms.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-30SB with the ACEJ12X120-30SB

At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push at the same pressure, or down from a 20 mm bore (157.1 N) if you are over-sizing a light pick-and-place move. The male rod thread (B code) suits external knuckle brackets, while the FA flange or LB foot bolts to standard fixture faces. If you need position feedback, this -S version already carries the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; other versions must be ordered with the -S code. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, order the ACEJ12X120 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ACEJ12X120-30SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-30SB FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore uses an M5x0.8 port and a 6 mm rod with male thread. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and the 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.

The -30 code is a 30 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke by up to 30 mm, so the working range is 90-120 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class, but confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping because the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
