This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ12X120-40B is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder: 12 mm bore, 120 mm stroke and a 40 mm trim window, so a stop screw sets the extend stroke anywhere in the 80-120 mm range on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 120 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm standard limit for bore 12, so this unit is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures and sliding guards. Air runs 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end. As a sizing rule, keep real work near 34 N (about 0.6 of the push rating), which corresponds to lifting roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. No magnet is fitted, so position switches cannot be used; order the -S code for that. This model is discontinued - the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X120, and you should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects stamped clips or moulded caps off a die table; the 80-120 mm trim window lets you set the exact discharge reach without changing cylinders.
Opens and closes a machine safety guard on a compact packaging line; the short body fits where a full-length profile cylinder will not.
Pushes trays or blister packs weighing up to about 2.9 kg vertically equivalent onto a conveyor lane at 30-500 mm/s.
For light clamping and ejecting at 80-120 mm of travel, the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N). If 56.5 N is generous, there is no smaller ACPJ bore, so check whether a shorter trim window suits the job. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod thread and the port is M5x0.8. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. This cylinder is discontinued; the ACEJ12X120 is the current-production replacement in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N. At 0.7 MPa the figures are 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8. Keep real work near 34 N for margin.
The -40 code is a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke to any value from 80 to 120 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. This model is discontinued; the ACEJ12X120 is the current drop-in successor - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
