This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ12X120-40SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 120 mm made-to-order stroke (the standard maximum for this bore is 50 mm). A stop screw trims the extend stroke by up to 40 mm within the ordered -40 window, giving a usable range of 80-120 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N / 59.4 N, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding.
The -S code on this model means the position magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body, and the B code gives a male rod thread on the 6 mm S45C hard-chrome rod. For sizing, treat roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the 56.5 N push) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.8 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note the stop screw is a mechanical end stop only: on air loss the piston still drifts, so it is not a load-holding lock. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X120 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick lightweight molded caps or bushings off the mold face, and the 80-120 mm adjustable range lets the setter dial the eject stroke to the part without re-plumbing.
With the fitted magnet and a CMSE or DMSE switch at each end, the 120 mm travel confirms open/closed status on a reagent or sample gate, while the short body fits inside a compact enclosure.
About 34 N of usable clamp force at 0.5 MPa holds thin sheet or small brackets during tack welding; the male rod thread (B code) accepts an I or Y knuckle for a pivoting clamp arm.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore, so step up if your part weight or friction load exceeds about 34 N of real work. The 120 mm stroke is non-standard and made to order for this bore. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot on the compact face, and the fitted -S magnet lets CMSE / DMSE switches report end positions. If you need a fixed stroke instead, look at the ACP; for a double-rod version, the ACPD. For new projects, order the current ACEJ12X120 and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
It is a double acting 12 mm bore cylinder: push 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa, push 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa, and a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed 30-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C, port M5x0.8, rod 6 mm with male thread, and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order non-standard length for this bore.
Order the ACEJ12X120, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in a matching short body. Because the ACPJ is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and remember the magnet on this unit came from the -S option code, so specify -S on the ACEJ if you need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing.
