This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -40 code gives a 40 mm stop-screw window, so the 120 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 80 and 120 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Note the 120 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim slides and guarding gates. In practice, plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rating), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the rod end is female M3x0.5. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 80-120 mm adjustable window lets a technician dial the eject stroke to clear a fixture, with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light plastic or stamped parts.
About 2.9 kg vertical lift capacity with a 2:1 margin suits raising lightweight trays or cover plates, and the short body fits inside tight jig plates.
The stop screw trims the extend stroke so a gate seats consistently, while the fixed TPU bumper softens the ends at speeds from 30 to 500 mm/s.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm and 157.1 N for the 20 mm bore, so step up if your part weight approaches 3 kg. The 40 mm adjuster only shortens the extend stroke and acts as an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. Mounting is FA/FB flange or LB foot, and without the optional -S magnet no CMSE / DMSE switch can be fitted. Order the ACEJ12X120 as the current replacement and verify the ISO 21287 footprint first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window, so the 120 mm extend stroke can be trimmed to any length between 80 and 120 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, female rod thread M3x0.5. The 120 mm stroke is a made-to-order length because the bore 12 standard maximum is 50 mm.
It is a short-body compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body and S45C hard-chrome rod, saving about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a fixed TPU bumper at each end and FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting. No magnet is fitted unless the optional -S code is ordered, and only then can CMSE / DMSE switches be used. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X120 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
