This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-50B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-50B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-50B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-50B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X120-50B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 50 mm on site, giving a usable range of 70-120 mm. This 120 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for the 12 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. It is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120, a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it reaches 79.2 N push. That 56.5 N equals about 5.7 kg of thrust, so plan on roughly 2.8 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin, or about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, the male rod thread (B code) suits knuckle brackets, and the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply decelerate the piston - they never lock or hold a load. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-50B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-50B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 70-120 mm adjustable range lets a machinist trim the push stroke so a finished bushing or pin clears a drill jig without overtravel, using about 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa.
Around 34 N of practical working force at 0.5 MPa suits pressing micro-switches or terminals into PCB housings, with the male rod thread taking an I-type knuckle.
The short body, roughly half the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside slim machine guards where a 120 mm stroke must swing a small flap or stopper.
If 56.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your jig, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); if the load is under 30 N and space is tightest, the same 12 mm bore with a shorter standard stroke may suffice. Remember the adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold position. This model has no magnet (no S code), so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be fitted; order an -S variant if sensing is needed. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings match the family, and the ACEJ12X120 is the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um. The port is M5x0.8, the rod is 6 mm with a male thread, and the 50 mm adjustment window trims the 120 mm stroke down to 70 mm.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 50 mm within the ordered window, so you can set any extend length from 70 to 120 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 120 mm. The stop is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - the piston still drifts if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ12X120 is the current ISO 21287 drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm its mounting dimensions before swapping, and note this unit has no magnet, so CMSE or DMSE switches need an -S variant.
