This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-50 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-50 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-50 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X120-50 is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: an external stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke down by up to 50 mm, giving a usable range of 70-120 mm without changing the cylinder. It is discontinued, and the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X120 (swap the P for an E) in the same bore, stroke and force class. Note this is a made-to-order stroke, since the maximum standard stroke for a 12 mm bore is 50 mm.
At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Applying the usual 0.6 rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N of real work, which lifts about 3.5 kg vertically with margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. The rod thread is female M3x0.5 and the port is M5x0.8.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-50 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-50 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 70-120 mm adjustable range lets a mold setter trim the eject stroke to clear a shallow cavity, with 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa enough for light nylon or POM parts.
The 12 mm bore's 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa nudges reagent racks into position, and the short body fits inside a compact analyzer housing where a full-length cylinder will not.
Running at 30-500 mm/s, the trimmed 70-120 mm stroke folds small carton flaps at the filler, with the fixed TPU bumper softening the end of travel.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your jig, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa); if 56.5 N is generous, the same bore with a shorter stroke may be lighter on air. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 50 mm window - it never lengthens it past 120 mm, and it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts on air loss. Mounting uses FA/FB flange or LB foot on the standard face. This unit has no magnet (no S code), so no CMSE / DMSE switch can be fitted; order an -S variant if sensing is needed. Before ordering, confirm the ACEJ12X120 replacement matches your ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code gives a 50 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke is trimmable from 120 mm down to 70 mm via the external stop screw. The 120 mm stroke is made to order because the bore 12 maximum standard stroke is 50 mm. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, female rod thread M3x0.5.
Only if the optional -S magnet is ordered - this version has no magnet, so no CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switch can be mounted. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard, and check FA/FB flange or LB foot compatibility against your fixture.
