This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X120-75S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X120-75S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X120-75S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 120mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X120-75S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 120 mm stroke by up to 75 mm, giving a usable range of 45-120 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 120 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X120, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which suits tight fixtures, guarding and small gantries. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends and only decelerates the piston; it never locks or holds a load, and on air loss the piston can drift. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly. Running on 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s, a practical rule of thumb is to plan for about 34 N (roughly 3.4 kg) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X120-75S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X120-75S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×120 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -75 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 45-120 mm trim range lets a fixture builder dial in the exact eject position for connector housings, while the fitted magnet and a CMSE switch confirm the part was pushed clear.
At 56.5 N push and 30-500 mm/s speed, the 12 mm bore gently advances microplate trays between stations without disturbing delicate samples, and the short body fits inside compact enclosures.
About 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold small aluminium blanks during drilling or marking, and the adjustable stop absorbs fixture tolerance without re-machining the jig.
Size up if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal: the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. Size down only if your load is under about 34 N, the usable figure for this 12 mm bore. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke, not a mid-stroke lock, so do not rely on it to hold a load against gravity. This unit carries the -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X120 instead, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice, plan for about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 3 kg vertically with a sensible margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure.
The -75 code is a 75 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 120 mm extend stroke to any length from 45 mm up to the full 120 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X120 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
