This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X125-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X125-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X125-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 125mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X125-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder in the AirTAC ACPJ series, with a 12 mm bore and a 125 mm stroke. At 0.5 MPa it pushes with 56.5 N and pulls with 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N and 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa. The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 105-125 mm range on site. The 125 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order build. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X125, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim pick-and-place heads and compact fixtures. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped on for end-of-stroke sensing. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end to soften the stops, and the female M3x0.5 rod thread takes standard I/Y knuckles. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X125-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X125-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×125 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa clears a finished connector or sensor cap from a nest, and the 20 mm window lets you trim the 125 mm stroke down to 105 mm so the ejector pin stops exactly at part height.
Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches clamp onto the 12 mm body to confirm the rod has reached the trimmed stop before the PLC releases the fixture.
About 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa seats vials or micro-well plates gently, and the short body fits inside a benchtop guard where a full-length profile cylinder would not.
Size both ways: bore 16 delivers 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N is marginal, while staying at bore 12 keeps the envelope smallest. The 20 mm window shortens the extend stroke only; it never extends past 125 mm and it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. Match FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts and I/Y rod knuckles to the ISO 21287 face. This ACPJ is discontinued - order ACEJ12X125 as the current replacement and verify the mounting dimensions against your fixture.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 125 mm extend stroke anywhere down to 105 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so never rely on it to hold a load. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.
No - the maximum standard stroke for bore 12 is 50 mm, so 125 mm is a made-to-order stroke. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X125 (same bore, stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 ACE series). Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint. The -S magnet on this model carries over as an option on the ACEJ, enabling CMSE / DMSE switches.
