This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X125-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X125-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X125-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 125mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X125-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued AirTAC model is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 125 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 85-125 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 125 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. The S code means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends to soften end-of-travel contact. For sizing, plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rating), which lifts about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X125, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X125-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X125-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×125 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to eject light plastic caps or stamped clips from a nest, and the 85-125 mm adjustable range lets the technician dial the ejector tip position without shimming.
With the fitted magnet and a CMSE switch, a PLC can confirm the rod has reached the trimmed stop before a leak or label test starts, at cycle speeds up to 500 mm/s.
The short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside machine guarding or a slide fixture where a full-length body cannot, clamping PCB trays or small die-cast covers.
Size the bore by load: the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa, while the 16 mm bore raises that to 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore to 157.1 N at the same pressure. If your fixture needs a shorter standard stroke, the 16 mm bore reaches 75 mm and the 20 mm bore 100 mm without made-to-order lead time. The 40 mm window here only shortens the extend stroke; it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order ACEJ12X125 as the current drop-in replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those figures rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and the port is M5x0.8 with a female M3x0.5 rod thread. The 125 mm stroke is made to order because the standard maximum for a 12 mm bore is 50 mm.
The -40 code is a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 125 mm extend stroke to any length down to 85 mm on site. It is an end stop only, not a load-holding brake, and the fixed TPU bumpers simply soften the ends of travel. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X125 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows a DIN-standard footprint.
