This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X125-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X125-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X125-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 125mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X125-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X125-40SB is a discontinued double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -40 stop screw trims the 125 mm stroke down to as short as 85 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 125 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in slim fixtures and guarded cells. Because the S code is on this unit, the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be slid onto the body for end-of-stroke signals. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 6 mm rod. A practical sizing rule: at 0.5 MPa plan on roughly 34 N of real work, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. For new projects, order the current-production ACEJ12X125 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X125-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X125-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×125 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet lets CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the trimmed extend position on a small packaging-machine gate running 30-500 mm/s.
About 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa suits a jig clamp on an electronics assembly fixture, with the stop screw set anywhere in the 85-125 mm range.
The 125 mm made-to-order stroke ejects finished plastic caps from a mold tray, lifting parts of roughly 2.9 kg or less with margin.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push at the same pressure, or stay here when a light clamp or gate under about 34 N of working force is enough. The 40 mm window means your stop position must fall between 85 mm and 125 mm of stroke. Note the stop is a mechanical end stop only - on air loss the piston drifts, so it is not a load-holding brake. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. This model is discontinued; the drop-in successor is the ACEJ12X125.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting, runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends and an M5x0.8 port. The 125 mm stroke is non-standard for this 12 mm bore and is made to order.
The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 85-125 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past 125 mm, and the stop is not a mid-stroke lock. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X125 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard.
