This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X15-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X15-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X15-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X15-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued ACPJ12X15-20S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 15 mm stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 0-15 mm. At the 12 mm bore it delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Practical sizing: plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rated push), which lifts about 2 kg vertically - or about 1 kg if you keep a 2:1 margin for a real part. The -S magnet is fitted on this unit, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. The ACPJ family is no longer in production; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X15 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X15-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X15-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×15 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa holds small circuit boards against a nest during pin-probe testing, and the 0-15 mm trimmed stroke clears loading without a longer body.
A 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa nudges vials or slides off a shuttle into a collection tray, with the fitted magnet and a CMSE switch confirming the eject position.
Mounted LB-foot down beside a semi-auto sealer, the cylinder tips lightweight cartons off a conveyor stop plate; the 6 mm rod and M3x0.5 female thread suit a light knuckle.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force step in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push at the same pressure, or stay at 12 mm if your clamp or eject load sits under about 34 N. The 15 mm stroke is within the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so no made-to-order build is needed. The female M3x0.5 rod thread takes I/Y knuckles, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the ISO 21287 face. Because the stop screw is a mechanical end stop only, it does not hold a load on air loss - add a valve or external stop if that matters. Order the ACEJ12X15 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For real work, budget about 34 N (0.6 of the push rating), which corresponds to lifting roughly 2 kg vertically - about 1 kg with a 2:1 safety margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and speed runs 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 15 mm extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 0-15 mm - it trims the stroke, it never extends past it, and it is not a mid-stroke lock. The body is a short ISO 21287-class compact with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends and an M5x0.8 port. This ACPJ is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X15 (same bore, stroke and force class) - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
