This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X15-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X15-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X15-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X15-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This AirTAC ACPJ12X15-20SB is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 15 mm stroke within the 20 mm window of the -20 code, so the working range is 0-15 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. Its hard-anodized aluminium body is about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit.
Note this model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X15 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 family - confirm mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard. The -S magnet is fitted on this unit, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly on the body. As a rule of thumb, plan on roughly 34 N (0.6 of the push force) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The male (B) rod thread and PT ports suit small clamping fixtures.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X15-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X15-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×15 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to eject small stamped clips from a micro forming die, with the 0-15 mm trimmed range matching shallow part pockets.
A lab automation gate for 10 ml vials uses the 15 mm stroke to swing a light arm clear, and the fitted -S magnet drives a DMSE switch to confirm gate-open position.
On a small carton tucker, the 12 mm bore folds pre-scored flaps; the stop screw lets operators dial the extend stroke down to the flap depth without changing hardware.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push or drop nothing smaller in the family. The 15 mm stroke sits well inside the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a standard build, not made to order. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load mid-stroke. Choose the male thread (B) with FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting to match your fixture, and remember the -S magnet on this model enables CMSE / DMSE switch positioning. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X15 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on about 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s.
The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 15 mm extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 0-15 mm. It is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X15 (P changed to E), same bore, stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 family; confirm mounting dimensions before swapping.
