This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-100B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-100B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-100B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-100B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X160-100B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 160 mm stroke anywhere inside the ordered 100 mm window, giving a usable range of 60-160 mm on site. Air filtered to 40 um drives it at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), with speeds of 30-500 mm/s and a fixed TPU bumper at each end. At 0.5 MPa this 12 mm bore pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it reaches 79.2 N on extend. Note that the 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a non-standard, made-to-order build. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the mounting length roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into shallow fixtures, slide clamps and small gantries. The B code gives a male 6 mm rod thread and the port is M5x0.8. Because no -S code is ordered, there is no magnet, so CMSE or DMSE switches cannot be fitted on this unit. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3 kg vertical) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. Before swapping to the ACEJ12X160, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions, since the ACP series follows a DIN-standard footprint.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-100B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-100B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -100 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 60 mm trim on the 160 mm stroke lets a bench-top marking press bottom out at exactly the part height, using about 34 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa.
Pushes stamped clips off a fixture in an electronics assembly cell; the male rod thread takes an I-type knuckle for a short lever stroke.
Clamps a folding flap on a semi-auto cartoner; the short body fits inside the guard frame where a full-length profile cylinder will not.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is marginal, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N; if the load is under about 34 N, the same 12 mm bore with a shorter stroke window may be cheaper. The 100 mm adjust window suits stations where one cylinder serves several part heights - set the stop once per changeover. The stop is a mechanical end stop only; it does not hold a load if air is lost. Mounting uses FA/FB flange or LB foot on the DIN-standard face. If you need position sensing, order the -S magnet variant; this unit has none. For new designs, specify the ACEJ12X160 instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -100 code gives a 100 mm adjustment window, so the extend stroke can be set anywhere from 60 to 160 mm. The 160 mm stroke is non-standard for this 12 mm bore (standard max is 50 mm) and is made to order. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) at 30-500 mm/s.
Only if the cylinder was ordered with the optional -S magnet; this unit has no magnet, so CMSE or DMSE switches cannot be mounted. The ACPJ series is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACPJ follows a DIN-standard footprint.
