This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-10B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-10B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-10B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-10B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, so air drives the rod out and pulls it back, and its -10 code adds a 10 mm stop-screw window that trims the 160 mm extend stroke anywhere in a 150-160 mm range. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa), which works out to roughly 34 N of practical working force once you plan for about 60% of the rating. The 160 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so this unit is made to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures where a full-length body cannot. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod with a male thread (B code), and the M5x0.8 ports take PT fittings. Note: no magnet is fitted on this version, so position switches cannot be used; order the -S code for that. This model is discontinued - the current drop-in is ACEJ12X160, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-10B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-10B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold small circuit boards in a test fixture, and the 10 mm window lets you fine-trim the extend stroke to match fixture height.
A 150-160 mm reach suits pushing tiny machined watch or connector parts off a narrow tooling slide inside a compact assembly head.
The 6 mm male-thread rod drives a light sample tray about 34 N of practical force at 0.5 MPa, lifting roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
At this bore size the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa suits light clamping and small-part ejection; step down is not available below 12 mm in this family, while the 16 mm bore gives 100.5 N push and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure if the load grows. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for trimming the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston, so the rod will drift if air is lost. Mount with FA/FB flange or LB foot hardware, and remember the optional -S magnet is required before any CMSE / DMSE switch will work. For new designs, specify the ACEJ12X160 instead, as this ACPJ version is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and the port is M5x0.8 (PT). The 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12.
A stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 10 mm, giving a usable 150-160 mm range; it cannot extend beyond the ordered stroke and it is not a mid-stroke lock. This ACPJ is discontinued - the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series follows a DIN-standard footprint.
