This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-10 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke, built to the DIN-standard short-body format with a hard-anodized aluminium body and an S45C hard-chrome rod. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 160 mm extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 150-160 mm. Note that the 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order build. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class.
Because the short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, it slots into slim pick-and-place heads and test fixtures where a full-length body will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends to decelerate the piston. For sizing, plan on roughly 34 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating, which corresponds to lifting about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches; this unit has no S code, so no magnet is fitted. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ12X160.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |

The ACEJ12X160-10 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip small stamped terminals or pins out of a die, and the 10 mm trim window lets the operator dial the eject travel between 150 and 160 mm without shimming.
With about 2.9 kg of vertical lift capacity at a 2:1 margin, the 12 mm bore raises reagent trays or sample vials inside tight instrument housings where a full-length body cannot fit.
Ordered with the -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm component seating; the short body mounts on an FA flange beside the fixture, and the stop screw sets the probe reach in the 150-160 mm window.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to bore 16 for 100.5 N push or bore 20 for 157.1 N at the same pressure if the load is heavier. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. Order the -S code if you need the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and pick FA/FB flange or LB foot mounting to suit the fixture. For new designs, specify the current-production ACEJ12X160 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; the theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, fluid air filtered to 40 um. The port is M5x0.8, the rod is 6 mm with a female M3x0.5 thread, and the 160 mm stroke is a non-standard, made-to-order length since bore 12 tops out at 50 mm standard.
The -10 code adds a 10 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke on site, giving a usable range of 150-160 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered value, and it is an end stop only, not a load-holding brake. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
