This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This discontinued AirTAC model is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 160 mm stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 140-160 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim jigs and guarded stations. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N (0.6 x 56.5 N) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting roughly 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 6 mm rod, the port is M5x0.8, and no magnet is fitted - the optional -S code is required before any CMSE / DMSE switch can be used. For new projects, order the current-production ACEJ12X160 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first, since the ACP family is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick lightweight molded caps or bushings off a fixture, and the 140-160 mm adjustable reach clears deep mold pockets without a longer frame.
A 6 mm male-thread rod drives a light shutter or carrier between two positions; order the -S magnet version if CMSE / DMSE end-position signaling is needed later.
The 2.9 kg vertical-lift equivalent with a 2:1 margin suits raising small vial trays or sensor heads, and the short body fits inside compact instrument enclosures.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore, so step up a size if your part weight or friction load approaches 34 N of real demand. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate clamp if you must hold position. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the male thread from the B code accepts I/Y rod knuckles directly. This model is discontinued; the drop-in successor is ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class - verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; the theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code sets a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm, so the working range is 140-160 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past 160 mm, and the stop is not a mid-stroke lock - the rod drifts if air is lost. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s and operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued and no longer in production. The current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X160, which matches the same 12 mm bore, 160 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short-body format. Because the ACP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Also note this unit has no magnet fitted; the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switch mounting, and the 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
