This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X160-20S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 160 mm stroke by up to 20 mm on site, giving a usable range of 140-160 mm. At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 160 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a non-standard, made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into narrow fixtures a full-length body cannot reach. In practice, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the push rating), which is about 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted directly. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X160, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 140-160 mm adjustable reach and 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa slide small sample trays into an analytical instrument slot without shock.
With the magnet fitted, CMSE switches confirm end positions while the trimmed 20 mm window tucks flaps on light cartons at 30-500 mm/s.
CMSE / DMSE switching on the fitted magnet signals each eject cycle for 3 kg-class parts on an electronics assembly line.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or down only if you need less than 56 N. The female M3x0.5 rod thread suits small knuckle brackets; FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not hold a load if air is lost. Because this 160 mm stroke is made to order and the model is discontinued, order ACEJ12X160 and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The stop screw trims the 160 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm, so the working range is 140-160 mm. The 160 mm stroke is non-standard for this 12 mm bore (standard maximum is 50 mm) and is made to order.
It is a short ISO 21287-class compact cylinder with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod and a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, about 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly for end-of-stroke detection. The ACPJ is discontinued; ACEJ12X160 is the current drop-in - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
