This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-20 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable, the ACPJ12X160-20 is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a made-to-order 160 mm stroke. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N on the extend stroke at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 140-160 mm range on site. Note that the 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is built to order.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim slides and guarded assemblies. A hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the rod ends in a female M3x0.5 thread with M5x0.8 ports. As a working figure, plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) of real duty at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-20 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Holds small aluminium brackets against a locating pin in an assembly jig, using the 140-160 mm extend range to clear loading and close on the part.
Knocks cosmetic bottles or blister cards off a narrow conveyor lane into a chute, where the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is ample for lightweight product.
Drives a small dipper or probe into a test station inside a compact instrument enclosure, where the short body fits a space a full-length cylinder cannot.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm and 157.1 N for the 20 mm. Choose it for light clamping, indexing or part presentation where the 140-160 mm adjustable extend range covers the cycle. If a load must stay put on air loss, remember the stop screw only trims stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so add an external stop or valve. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and if you need position feedback order the -S variant so CMSE / DMSE switches can be used. For new builds, specify the current ACEJ12X160 instead and verify the ISO 21287 hole pattern.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-500 mm/s, with a 6 mm rod, female M3x0.5 rod thread and M5x0.8 ports. The 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12.
The -20 code sets a 20 mm window: a stop screw at the head shortens the 160 mm extend stroke to any length down to 140 mm, and fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the piston at both ends. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds or brakes a load if air is lost. This ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X160, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
