This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-30B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-30B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-30B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-30B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting, adjustable-stroke compact cylinder in the discontinued AirTAC ACPJ series. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa, 11.5 kgf theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa). Its 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, since the standard catalogue maximum for bore 12 is 50 mm, and the -30 code gives a 30 mm window: a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere within 130-160 mm on site. The rod end carries a male thread (B code) and the ports are M5x0.8.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim slides and guarded stations. Plan on about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rating), enough to lift about 1.7 kg vertically with margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body pairs with an S45C hard-chrome rod, and no magnet is fitted - the optional -S code is what enables CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X160, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-30B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-30B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa slides sample trays of about 1.7 kg between test stations, with the 130-160 mm trim range matching shallow benchtop fixtures.
Ejects rejected caps or pins from a conveyor lane; add the -S magnet code on future orders if CMSE / DMSE switches are needed for end-position confirmation.
The 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa seats connectors or labels in jigs where the short body must fit under a low guard, with the male rod thread simplifying tooling attachment.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for bore 16 and 157.1 N for bore 20, so step up a size if your part weight or friction load exceeds about 34 N of real work. The 160 mm stroke is non-standard and built to order, and the 30 mm adjuster only shortens the extend stroke - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod can drift if air is lost. Mounting uses FA/FB flange or LB foot on the compact face; order the -S variant if you need CMSE / DMSE switch positions, because this B-coded unit has no magnet. For new projects specify the ACEJ12X160, the current drop-in successor in the same bore and force class.
Replacement checklist
Bore 12 mm, made-to-order 160 mm stroke with a 30 mm adjustment window (usable 130-160 mm). Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Port is M5x0.8, rod is 6 mm with a male thread, speed range 30-500 mm/s, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi).
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 30 mm, so you can dial in any extend length from 130 to 160 mm without changing cylinders; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 160 mm. The ACPJ series is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160, a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ follows the DIN-standard compact footprint.
