This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-30S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-30S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-30S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-30S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting ACPJ12X160-30S is a DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 160 mm stroke that an external stop screw trims by up to 30 mm, giving a usable extend range of 130-160 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa. The 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot. A fixed TPU bumper sits at each end, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing. For sizing, expect roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-30S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-30S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects sample trays from a compact analyzer drawer, where the 130-160 mm adjustable extend range matches shallow tray depths and 34 N of usable force is ample.
Pushes connector housings off a fixture nest into a chute; the trimmed stroke prevents overtravel and the fitted magnet confirms home position via a CMSE switch.
Assists seating of small pins in electronics jigs with about 3 kg of vertical working force at 0.5 MPa, inside a guard too tight for a full-length body.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest ACPJ force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push or down is not possible, as 12 mm is the smallest. If you need to hold a load against air loss, remember the stop screw only trims the extend stroke, it is not a mid-stroke lock. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet lets you add CMSE or DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ12X160 as the current replacement and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, port M5x0.8, rod thread M3x0.5 female, and the 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -30 code is a 30 mm window: a stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke on site, so the rod can be set anywhere in a 130-160 mm range. The TPU bumpers only decelerate at the ends and never hold a load. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X160, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
