This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-30 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-30 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-30 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-30 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A double acting compact cylinder in the discontinued ACPJ family, the ACPJ12X160-30 uses a 12 mm bore to deliver 56.5 N of push force and 42.4 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N on the extend stroke at 0.7 MPa. The -30 code adds a 30 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere between 130 and 160 mm on site, so one cylinder can serve several fixture depths. The 160 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim pick-and-place arms and guarded test rigs. A practical sizing rule: keep real work to roughly 34 N (about 0.6 of the push rating), which corresponds to lifting around 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. This model has no magnet fitted, so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be used unless the optional -S magnet is ordered. Since ACPJ is discontinued, plan the swap to the current-production ACEJ12X160 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-30 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-30 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -30 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Presses small sensor caps or probe tips with 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa; the 30 mm window lets technicians dial the extend stroke between 130 and 160 mm for different sample heights.
Kicks finished connector housings off a narrow assembly fixture where the short body, roughly half the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, is the only thing that fits behind the guard.
Drives a 2.9 kg-class vertical lift in a small rotary indexing table; order the -S version if CMSE or DMSE switch feedback on end positions is needed later.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N push at 0.5 MPa); if 56.5 N is ample, stay here for the tightest envelope. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. Female M3x0.5 rod thread, PT ports, FA flange or LB foot mounting. Order the ACEJ12X160 as the current replacement and verify ISO 21287 hole patterns before converting.
Replacement checklist
Push 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; push 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa; theoretical maximum 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 12 mm bore, 160 mm made-to-order stroke (the bore's standard maximum is 50 mm), a 30 mm extend-stroke adjustment window, M5x0.8 ports, M3x0.5 female rod thread, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure, 30-500 mm/s speed and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
AirTAC no longer produces the ACPJ family. The current drop-in is the ISO 21287 ACEJ12X160, which matches the same 12 mm bore, 160 mm stroke and force class. Because the ACP is DIN-standard rather than ISO 21287, confirm the mounting hole pattern and overall dimensions against the ACEJ datasheet before swapping, and add the -S code if you need the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches.
