This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its extend stroke on site: the -40 stop screw shortens the 160 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable 120-160 mm window. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa. The 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard limit for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X160.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. Plan on about 34 N (roughly 3 kg lifted) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full 56.5 N rating. The male rod thread (B code) suits I/Y knuckles, the fixed TPU bumper decelerates at both ends, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches - without -S there is no magnet. Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping to the ACEJ.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 120-160 mm trim range ejects finished clips or pins from a drilling jig, with about 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa for light aluminium parts.
A 160 mm stroke slides sample trays or shutters on test benches, and the male rod thread takes an I knuckle for off-axis gate linkage.
On wire and cable winding machines the trimmed extend stroke sets a repeatable guide position, with CMSE switch feedback when the -S magnet is ordered.
Size both ways: bore 16 delivers 100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa if 56.5 N is marginal, while staying at bore 12 keeps the M5x0.8 port and 6 mm rod in the tightest envelope. The 40 mm stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. Order the -S code if you need magnet-driven CMSE / DMSE sensing. Replacement: ACEJ12X160, same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N. Theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s. This model is discontinued - ACEJ12X160 is the current drop-in.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 40 mm within the 160 mm build, so the working range is 120-160 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke. It is a mechanical end stop, not a load-holding brake. The port is M5x0.8, the rod thread is male, and sensing needs the optional -S magnet with CMSE / DMSE switches - no magnet is fitted without it.
