This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder trims its own extend stroke on site: the -40 stop screw shortens the 160 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable 120-160 mm range without changing hardware. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Note the 160 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. The fixed TPU bumpers at both ends only soften the ends of travel - they never hold or brake a load, and on air loss the piston drifts. This model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X160, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin) of real work from the 56.5 N rating.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 120-160 mm adjustable reach clears a molded clip or bushing off the mold face, and the 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is ample for parts under about 3 kg lifted vertically with margin.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm rod position on the 160 mm travel, while the stop screw trims the stroke to 120 mm for shallow pressing of connector pins.
The compact short body fits between narrow conveyor frames where a full-length profile cylinder will not, pushing lightweight cartons or blisters sideways at 30-500 mm/s.
At 12 mm bore you are at the light end of the ACPJ range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for the 20 mm bore. If your jig needs more than about 34 N of usable force, step up to the 16 mm frame. The 6 mm rod carries an M3x0.5 female thread and the ports are M5x0.8, so check your manifold spacing early. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X160 instead - this ACPJ version is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa the 12 mm bore gives 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull; at 0.7 MPa it gives 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code sets a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke by up to 40 mm, so the working range is 120-160 mm. The 160 mm stroke itself is a made-to-order length, since the standard maximum for this bore is 50 mm.
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued and no longer in production. The current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same 12 mm bore, 160 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short-body format. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your existing fixture, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint. The ACEJ also carries the optional -S magnet code for CMSE / DMSE switches if you need position sensing.
