This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ12X160-40SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 160 mm made-to-order stroke. An external stop screw trims the extend stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 120-160 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push. The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the short ISO 21287-class footprint, which saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.
For sizing, plan on about 34 N (roughly 0.6 of the push rating) of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is about 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin. The male rod thread (B code) suits external knuckles, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches for end-of-stroke sensing. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. This model is discontinued: the current drop-in is ACEJ12X160, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

The ACEJ12X160-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa is enough to knock small machined or molded parts off a locating pin into a chute, with the 120-160 mm adjustable range tuned per fixture.
With the fitted -S magnet and CMSE / DMSE switches, a compact QC station can confirm both end positions of a 120-160 mm slide on a small electronics test rig.
A 3 kg vertical-lift equivalent suits sliding sample trays or vials between stations on an automated lab bench where a full-length profile cylinder will not fit.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N). If 56.5 N is generous for the job, note that a smaller standard bore does not exist below 12 mm in this series. The 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is built to order. The stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke, not a mid-stroke lock: on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not rely on it to hold a load. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the same face, and the -S magnet on this unit works with CMSE / DMSE switches. Replacement: ACEJ12X160.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 11.5 kgf. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8. The 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, trimmed by the 40 mm stop screw to any extend stroke from 120 to 160 mm.
The -40 code sets a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site, so the working range is 120-160 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered 160 mm, and the stop is not a load-holding brake. Fixed TPU bumpers decelerate at both ends. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X160 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
