This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting ACPJ12X160-40 is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore and a 160 mm stroke trimmed by a 40 mm external stop screw, giving a usable extend range of 120-160 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 160 mm stroke is longer than the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, so it is a made-to-order build. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends and speed spans 30-500 mm/s.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits narrow slides and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit. Plan on roughly 34 N (about 3 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating. No magnet is fitted because the -S code was not ordered, so CMSE or DMSE switches cannot be used on this unit. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X160, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 120-160 mm adjustable extend range ejects finished electronics components from a fixture, with the stop screw set so the rod never overshoots the nest.
56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa slides sample trays into a test position, and the short body fits inside the analyzer housing where a full-length cylinder will not.
Running at 30-500 mm/s, the 12 mm bore tucks light carton flaps at the end of a conveyor, with LB foot mounting on the machine frame.
At 12 mm bore this sits at the light end of the range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for bore 16 and 157.1 N for bore 20. If your part weight or clamping duty exceeds about 34 N of usable force, step up a bore. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke within the 40 mm window and drifts on air loss, so it is not a mid-stroke lock. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. For new projects order the ACEJ12X160, the current ISO 21287 successor.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is double acting with a 40 mm adjustment window on the 160 mm stroke, M5x0.8 ports, a female M3x0.5 rod thread, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating pressure, 30-500 mm/s speed and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. The 160 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12.
Only if the optional -S magnet was ordered; this unit has no magnet, so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be mounted. The ACPJ family is discontinued, and the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ is DIN-standard.
