This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-50B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-50B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50B

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-50B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50B

The ACPJ12X160-50B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -50 code gives a 50 mm stop-screw window, so the 160 mm stroke can be trimmed on site anywhere between 110 and 160 mm. This 160 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for a 12 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Applying a 0.6 rule of thumb to the 56.5 N rating leaves about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin - enough for small covers, chutes or light clamps.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guard assemblies. A hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, the B code gives a male rod thread, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-50B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Where the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50B Is Used

compress

Light clamp fixture

About 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa clamps small aluminium brackets or plastic housings on an assembly bench, with the 50 mm window letting you dial the grip point between 110 and 160 mm.

vertical_align_bottom

Small parts ejection

Pushes finished M3 fasteners or O-rings off a pick nest into a chute; the male rod thread (B code) accepts a custom ejector tip directly.

sensors

Compact gate latch

The short body fits inside a slim machine guard frame where a full-length profile cylinder will not; add the -S magnet option if end-of-stroke detection is later required.

Replacing the Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50B with the ACEJ12X160-50B

At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure if the load needs more margin. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - on air loss the piston still drifts, so do not treat it as a load-holding lock. The B code supplies a male rod thread and the port is M5x0.8. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant, which carries the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; this non-S unit has no magnet. Mounting covers FA/FB flange and LB foot. Since the ACPJ is discontinued, plan the swap to the ACEJ12X160 and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50B FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code sets a 50 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke to any value from 110 to 160 mm. It is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston still drifts if air is lost. This stroke is a made-to-order size because the bore's standard maximum is 50 mm.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers at both ends and an M5x0.8 port. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X160 (same bore, stroke and force class). Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN-standard footprint.
