This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X160-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X160-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X160-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 160mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X160-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X160-50S is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 160 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable range of 110-160 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Its 160 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot. Because roughly 0.6 of the push force is usable in practice, plan for about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa - about 3 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin. The -S code on this model means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. Note this model is discontinued: the current drop-in is ACEJ12X160, and you should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since ACP is DIN-standard.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X160-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X160-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×160 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 110-160 mm adjustable window lets a technician dial in exact clamp position on a wafer test jig, with 56.5 N push enough for delicate PCB hold-down at 0.5 MPa.
With the fitted magnet and CMSE switches, a small parts-ejector on an electronics assembly line confirms extend and retract inside a guard only half the length of an ISO 15552 body.
A 160 mm stroke pushes sample trays into an analyzer chamber; the M5x0.8 ports and 30-500 mm/s speed range suit low-air, benchtop medical equipment.
At 56.5 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and positioning; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N) or 20 mm bore (157.1 N) if the load needs more force. Remember the stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and drifts on air loss - it is not a mid-stroke lock. FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts and I/Y rod knuckles bolt to the ISO 21287 face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order the current ACEJ12X160 replacement instead.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -50 code is a 50 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 160 mm extend stroke on site, so the working range is 110-160 mm. It cannot lengthen the stroke past 160 mm, and the stop is not a load-holding brake - the piston drifts if air is lost.
Yes - this unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state switches can be clamped to the hard-anodized aluminium body for position feedback. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X160 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because ACP is DIN-standard, and note the fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply decelerate the piston.
