This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-100SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-100SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.
The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-100SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-100SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder is double acting, with air driving the rod out and pulling it back, and its -100 code gives a 100 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 75-175 mm range. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 175 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard limit for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note that this ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X175.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. Because the -S magnet is fitted, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. As a working rule, budget about 34 N (roughly 3 kg) of real pushing effort at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The male rod thread (B code) takes external knuckles directly.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-100SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-100SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -100 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The fitted -S magnet with a CMSE switch confirms the rod reached the trimmed position before a 2-3 kg plastic housing is pushed off a pick nest.
About 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa holds aluminium sheet against a drill jig without denting, with the stop screw set to a 90 mm working stroke.
A 75-175 mm adjustable range lets a test bench push sample vials varying distances, lifting vials of about 2.9 kg vertically with margin.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or drop to a fixed-stroke ACP if no on-site trimming is needed. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only, not a mid-stroke lock, so the piston will drift if air is lost. LB foot or FA/FB flange mounting bolts to the standard face. Order ACEJ12X175 as the drop-in successor and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N. The theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the port is M5x0.8. Plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa.
The -100 code provides a 100 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 75 and 175 mm, and a fixed TPU bumper decelerates at each end. It is an end stop, not a load-holding brake. This ACPJ is discontinued; order ACEJ12X175 as the current drop-in and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
