This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.
The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-10SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: the -10 code gives a 10 mm stop-screw window, so the 175 mm stroke can be trimmed anywhere between 165 and 175 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Note that the 175 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. This ACPJ model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X175, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping because the ACP series follows a DIN-standard footprint.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. A practical sizing rule: at 0.5 MPa plan on about 34 N of usable push (roughly 60% of the rating), which corresponds to lifting about 3 kg vertically - halve that to about 1.5 kg if you want a 2:1 margin on a vertical lift. The -S magnet is fitted on this model, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted directly. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed range 30-500 mm/s, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-10SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 10 mm trim window on a 175 mm stroke lets a lab dosing head stop 5-10 mm short of a fragile vial, while the fitted -S magnet drives a CMSE switch to confirm the trimmed end position before dispensing starts.
With a body about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, this 12 mm bore ejects PCB carriers from a narrow SMT fixture where a full-length cylinder simply will not fit; 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough for light plastic carriers.
The 175 mm made-to-order stroke reaches deep into a sample magazine, and the male 6 mm rod thread with M3x0.5 female option accepts a custom pusher plate; plan on about 3 kg of vertical lift equivalent at 0.5 MPa.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. Step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push, or down is not available since this is the entry bore. The male rod thread (B code) takes an external nut, and the PT port thread is M5x0.8. Because the 175 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, order it as a non-standard build and expect a lead time. The stop screw only trims the extend stroke within the 10 mm window - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so on air loss the piston will still drift. If you need position feedback, this unit already carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, specify the ACEJ12X175 instead and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, port M5x0.8, rod 6 mm with male thread. The 175 mm stroke is a non-standard, made-to-order length (standard maximum for bore 12 is 50 mm), and the -10 code allows trimming the extend stroke by up to 10 mm.
The ACPJ family is no longer in production; order the ACEJ12X175, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same bore, stroke and force class as a current-production ISO 21287 cylinder. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP follows a DIN-standard layout. On the adjuster: it is a mechanical end stop that only shortens the extend stroke within the 10 mm window - it never holds a load if air is lost. The fixed TPU bumpers at both ends simply soften the end positions. This unit carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be fitted.
