This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-20S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder pushes with 56.5 N and pulls with 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa (79.2 / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code gives a 20 mm adjustment window: a stop screw trims the 175 mm extend stroke on site, so the usable range is 155-175 mm. The 175 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm standard maximum for a 12 mm bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X175, the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim pick-and-place heads and guarded test rigs. The -S magnet is fitted on this unit, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signals. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N (roughly 3.5 kgf) of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, with a fixed TPU bumper at both ends.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-20S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip small terminals or shims off a die face, and the 155-175 mm adjustable reach clears deep die pockets.
The fitted -S magnet with CMSE switches confirms probe home and extended positions, while the 20 mm trim dials the dip depth to the vial geometry.
A 2.9 kg vertical lift rating with margin suits small divertor flaps, and the short body fits under low conveyor frames where a profile cylinder will not.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force step: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for a 20 mm bore, so step up if your part weight or clamp force is close to the limit. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, and the rod will drift if air is lost, so use a separate clamp or brake for load holding. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ12X175 replacement, since the ACP series is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore uses an M5x0.8 port (PT) and a female M3x0.5 rod thread, the 6 mm rod is S45C hard-chrome, operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and the 175 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -20 code adds a stop screw that shortens the extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable 155-175 mm range; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 175 mm, and it does not hold a load if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued - order the ACEJ12X175 as the current drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class, and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
