This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Double acting and adjustable in stroke, the ACPJ12X175-20SB is a discontinued DIN-standard compact cylinder with a 12 mm bore, a 175 mm made-to-order stroke and a 20 mm adjustment window. A stop screw trims the extend stroke on site down to 155 mm, so one cylinder covers several jig positions. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 79.2 N push. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight guards and slim gantries.
Because the 175 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for bore 12, this unit is built to order. The -S code means the magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body, and the B code gives a male 6 mm rod thread. In practice, plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rating), which lifts around 3 kg vertically with margin. This model is discontinued: the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X175, and buyers should confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to press a dowel pin or spring contact out of a plastic housing, and the 20 mm window lets one cylinder serve two fixture depths without re-plumbing.
With the fitted -S magnet, a CMSE switch confirms the trimmed 155-175 mm extend position before the next station indexes, at speeds of 30-500 mm/s.
The short body, roughly half the length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits between fixture ribs where a full-length bore-12 cylinder would not, delivering about 3 kg of vertical lift equivalent.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (157.1 N). If 56.5 N covers the job with margin, stay here and save space. Note that the stop screw is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod will drift. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face, and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ACEJ12X175 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; the theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It is a double-acting 12 mm bore with a 175 mm made-to-order stroke trimmed by a 20 mm stop window (usable 155-175 mm), M5x0.8 ports, a 6 mm male rod thread, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends.
Order the ACEJ12X175, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same bore, stroke and force class in a matching short body. The ACPJ is DIN-standard, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping. The ACEJ keeps the FA/FB flange and LB foot mounting family, and the -S magnet option for CMSE / DMSE switches carries over.
