This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-40B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-40B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-40B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-40B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X175-40B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 175 mm stroke by up to 40 mm on site, giving a usable range of 135-175 mm. This 12 mm bore unit is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X175, which matches the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACPJ follows the older DIN-standard footprint.
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which means it lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a sensible margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and the 175 mm stroke is a made-to-order length - the longest standard stroke for bore 12 is 50 mm. The male rod thread (B code) suits knuckle and tooling attachments, and the M5x0.8 ports take 4 mm tubing common on small automation rigs.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-40B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-40B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa is enough to strip small plastic housings or stamped clips off a locating mandrel, with the 135-175 mm adjustable range tuned to the fixture depth.
The 12 mm bore and M5x0.8 ports suit compact analysis benches; the male rod thread takes a custom probe carrier, and the stop screw sets the exact presentation position.
At 30-500 mm/s the rod reaches the flap in under a second on a 175 mm move, and the 40 mm window lets the operator trim the stroke when carton sizes change.
Size both ways: if 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal for your jig, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N; if the load is under about 30 N, a smaller frame may not exist in this family, so keep bore 12 and check the pull force of 42.4 N for retract-dominated moves. The 40 mm window only shortens the extend stroke - it is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. This unit has no magnet (no S code), so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be fitted; order an -S variant if position sensing is needed. Mounting: FA/FB flange or LB foot. Replacement: ACEJ12X175.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, fluid air filtered to 40 um, temperature -20 to +70 C. The 175 mm stroke is non-standard (bore 12 standard max is 50 mm) and made to order.
The -40 code is a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 135 and 175 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - it never holds a load if air is lost. Fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends. The hard-anodized aluminium body with S45C hard-chrome rod mounts via FA/FB flange or LB foot. This model is discontinued; order the ACEJ12X175 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.
