This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-40S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-40S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-40S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-40S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This double acting compact cylinder from AirTAC carries a 12 mm bore with a 175 mm stroke and a 40 mm adjustment window, so a stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere in a 135-175 mm range on site. Air at 0.5 MPa delivers 56.5 N on extend and 42.4 N on retract, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical ceiling of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 175 mm stroke is beyond the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note this model is discontinued: the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X175, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP family was DIN-standard.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which matters in slim fixtures, guarding frames and pick stations. Because the -S code was ordered, the magnet is fitted and CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rated push), which equals lifting about 3 kg vertically; halve that for a 2:1 margin and it lifts about 1.7 kg. The fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston but never locks or holds a load - on air loss the rod still drifts.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-40S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-40S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects rejected caps or connectors off a conveyor at 135-175 mm travel; the fitted magnet plus a CMSE switch confirms full extension before the next part is released.
Opens and closes a sliding gate on an analytical sampler; 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is ample for a light gate, and the 40 mm window lets technicians fine-tune gate travel without changing the cylinder.
Raises a hinged fixture lid weighing under 1.7 kg vertically; the compact body fits inside the guard where a full-length ISO 15552 profile cylinder would not.
Size up if 56.5 N at 0.5 MPa is marginal: the 16 mm bore pushes 100.5 N and the 20 mm bore 157.1 N at the same pressure. Size down only if your load is under about 34 N, since the 12 mm bore is the smallest in this family. The female M3x0.5 rod thread suits I/Y knuckles from the ISO 21287 accessory set, and FA flange or LB foot mounts bolt directly on. If you need position feedback, this unit already carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, order the ACEJ12X175 instead - it is the current-production replacement in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and the air must be filtered to 40 um. The port is M5x0.8, the rod is 6 mm with a female M3x0.5 thread, and the extend stroke is trimmable by up to 40 mm (135-175 mm usable).
Yes. The standard stroke limit for bore 12 is 50 mm, so 175 mm is a non-standard, made-to-order build - expect a longer lead time and confirm the exact dimension from the datasheet. Also be aware the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class. Before swapping, verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions, because the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
