This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-40SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-40SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-40SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-40SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact cylinder works double acting, with air extending and retracting the 6 mm rod. The -40 code gives a 40 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the extend stroke anywhere between 135 and 175 mm, so one unit covers several fixture positions. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on roughly 34 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.
The 175 mm stroke is a made-to-order length, since the standard catalog stops at 50 mm for the 12 mm bore. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and this -S version carries the optional magnet so CMSE / DMSE switches can read position. The B code gives a male rod thread, the port is M5x0.8, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends. Note the ACPJ family is discontinued; the current drop-in is ACEJ12X175, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-40SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-40SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 34 N usable push at 0.5 MPa ejects small electronics housings off a nest, while the fitted magnet and a CMSE switch confirm full extension before the next cycle starts.
The 135-175 mm trim range lets one cylinder serve several fixture heights on a lab press; the stop screw is set once per recipe and the male M3x0.5 rod thread takes a custom tip.
With a body roughly 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, this unit slides a light guard gate inside a tight machine frame where a full-length cylinder cannot fit.
At 12 mm this is the smallest bore in the family: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your part or gate needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N push at the same pressure. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke and is not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts, so add a valve or external stop where holding matters. Pair FA/FB flange or LB foot mounts with I/Y rod knuckles on the male thread. Order the ACEJ12X175 as the current-production replacement.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -40 code is a 40 mm adjustment window: a stop screw shortens the 175 mm extend stroke down to 135 mm. It is an end stop only, not a load-holding lock. The 175 mm stroke is made to order, since the standard maximum for this bore is 50 mm.
No - the ACPJ family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is ACEJ12X175 in the same bore, stroke and force class; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, because the ACP is DIN-standard. This -S version carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be mounted. Mounting options are FA/FB flange and LB foot, with a male rod thread and M5x0.8 ports.
