This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-40 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-40 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-40 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-40 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 175 mm stroke by up to 40 mm, giving a usable range of 135-175 mm on site. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, and the 175 mm stroke is a non-standard, made-to-order length because the standard maximum for the 12 mm bore is 50 mm. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from this DIN-standard body.
The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which suits the 135-175 mm trim range for tight jigs and guarding. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the piston only - it never holds or brakes a load, and on air loss the piston drifts. Plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 60% of the rating), which lifts about 3.5 kg vertically, or about 1.7 kg with a 2:1 margin. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, and this unit has no magnet fitted - the optional -S code is required for CMSE / DMSE switches.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-40 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-40 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -40 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40 mm window lets one cylinder serve several part heights between 135 and 175 mm, with 56.5 N enough to push light plastic housings off a nest at 0.5 MPa.
The short body trims mounting length by about half versus an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so the 175 mm stroke fits under a low fixture plate; the stop screw sets the exact extend position.
About 1.7 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin covers microplate trays, and the 30-500 mm/s speed band matches gentle dosing moves.
For a 12 mm bore this is the top of the force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N from a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N from a 20 mm bore. If your trimmed load needs more than about 34 N of usable thrust, step up to the 16 mm frame. The female M3x0.5 rod thread and PT ports suit small tooling plates; FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the ISO 21287 face. The 175 mm stroke is made to order, and the ACEJ12X175 is the drop-in successor - verify its mounting dimensions before ordering.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa, 79.2 N push and 59.4 N pull; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 30-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, port M5x0.8, rod thread M3x0.5 female. The 175 mm stroke is a made-to-order length above the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore.
The -40 code is a 40 mm window: an external stop screw shortens the extend stroke anywhere between 135 and 175 mm. It is a mechanical end stop only - it does not lock the piston, which still drifts on air loss. The ACPJ family is discontinued; the ACEJ12X175 is the current ISO 21287 drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class, so confirm its mounting dimensions before swapping.
