This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X175-50S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X175-50S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X175-50S is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 175mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X175-50S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 175 mm stroke by up to 50 mm, giving a usable range of 125-175 mm on site. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 175 mm stroke exceeds the 50 mm standard maximum for this bore, so it is a made-to-order build. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ACEJ12X175.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits slim fixtures and guarded assemblies. Because the -S magnet is fitted on this unit, CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped directly to the hard-anodized aluminium barrel. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 3 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumpers at both ends soften end-of-stroke contact, and the female M3x0.5 rod thread takes standard I/Y knuckles.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X175-50S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X175-50S produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×175 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -50 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to kick light molded caps or clips off a nest, and the 125-175 mm adjustable range lets the setter tune the eject position without swapping cylinders.
With the -S magnet fitted, a CMSE switch signals full extension on PCB tray presses, confirming the part seated before the next station indexes.
About 3 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin suits holding small housings or cable assemblies under a probe head where the short body must fit inside the fixture frame.
At 12 mm bore this is the lightest force class: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore for 100.5 N or the 20 mm bore for 157.1 N at the same pressure. The 50 mm adjustment window lets one cylinder serve several jig positions between 125 and 175 mm. Remember the stop screw is an end stop, not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Before ordering, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ACEJ12X175 replacement, since the ACP series is DIN-standard.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa it pushes 79.2 N and pulls 59.4 N; the theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Speed range is 30-500 mm/s, operating pressure 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), and the 50 mm adjustment window trims the extend stroke to anywhere between 125 and 175 mm.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 50 mm within the ordered window; it cannot lengthen the stroke past 175 mm. The fixed TPU bumpers at each end only soften end contact and never hold a load. This model is discontinued: the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X175 in the same bore, stroke and force class, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
