This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X20-10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X20-10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X20-10 is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X20-10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This compact 12 mm bore unit is double acting, so air both extends and retracts the 6 mm rod, and its -10 code adds a 10 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw trims the 20 mm extend stroke on site to any usable range from 10 to 20 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N at 0.7 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into slim fixtures a full-length body cannot reach.
In practice, plan on about 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rated push), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, running 30-500 mm/s on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). Note this model is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X20, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X20-10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X20-10 produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -10 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Ejects small machined pins or stamped blanks off a fixture; the trimmed 10-20 mm stroke clears only as far as needed in tight die heads.
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa holds microscope slides or sensor housings during test-bench indexing without crushing delicate parts.
Folds small carton flaps on a compact packaging head where the short body fits inside the guard frame and the stop screw sets the tuck depth.
At 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa, this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and positioning; step up to the 16 mm bore (100.5 N push) if you need nearly double the force, or downsize from 20 mm (157.1 N) to save space. The stop screw only shortens the extend stroke - it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. This unit has no magnet fitted; order the -S version if you need CMSE / DMSE switches. FA/FB flange and LB foot mounts bolt to the standard face. Replaced by ACEJ12X20.
Replacement checklist
Push is 56.5 N and pull 42.4 N at 0.5 MPa; at 0.7 MPa push rises to 79.2 N and pull to 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The 12 mm bore has a 6 mm rod, M5x0.8 ports, M3x0.5 female rod thread, 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) operating range and 30-500 mm/s speed. The -10 code gives a 10 mm adjustment window on the 20 mm stroke.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke by up to 10 mm, giving a usable range of 10-20 mm; it cannot lengthen the stroke past the ordered 20 mm and it does not hold a load if air is lost. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is ACEJ12X20 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP series was built to a DIN standard.
