This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X20-20B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X20-20B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X20-20B is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X20-20B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ACPJ12X20-20B is a double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 20 mm stroke anywhere within the ordered 20 mm window, so the usable range is 0-20 mm. At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N, rising to 79.2 N push at 0.7 MPa. Its ISO 21287 short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into narrow jigs and guarding where a full-length body cannot fit.
The male rod thread (the B code) bolts straight to I/Y knuckles, and the hard-anodized aluminium body with S45C hard-chrome rod runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), 30-500 mm/s, with fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. Plan on roughly 34 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (about 0.6 of the push rating), which lifts about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ACEJ12X20, same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X20-20B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X20-20B produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.
| ACPJ | DIN compact cylinder (adjustable-stroke, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa (about 34 N usable) is enough to strip small plastic or machined parts off a locating pin, and the 0-20 mm adjustable range lets you tune the eject travel without changing tooling.
A 12 mm bore body fits inside tight guarding brackets, and the male rod thread (B code) couples directly to a knuckle for a swing gate or divert tab on a benchtop line.
The 2.9 kg vertical-lift equivalent with a 2:1 margin suits capping or light pressing of vials and sample trays, with the stop screw set to a repeatable short stroke.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest ACPJ size: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N for the 16 mm bore and 157.1 N for the 20 mm bore, so step up if your part weight or friction load exceeds about 34 N of usable force. The 20 mm stroke sits well inside the 50 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore. The adjuster is a mechanical end stop for the extend stroke only - it does not lock the piston mid-stroke, and on air loss the rod still drifts, so add a separate clamp if you must hold position. If you need position sensing, order the -S variant, since this model without the S code has no magnet and cannot carry CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, specify the ACEJ12X20 instead - this ACPJ is discontinued.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa push is 79.2 N and pull 59.4 N; theoretical maximum is 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The -20 code is a 20 mm adjustment window: an external stop screw shortens the 20 mm extend stroke by up to 20 mm, giving a usable range of 0-20 mm. It is a mechanical end stop, not a mid-stroke lock - on air loss the piston still drifts. The model is discontinued; the ACEJ12X20 is the current replacement.
It is an ISO 21287-class short-body cylinder, roughly 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome 6 mm rod, M5x0.8 ports and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. FA/FB flanges and LB feet bolt to the standard face. The magnet is the optional -S code: only with -S can CMSE or DMSE switches be fitted, and this particular model (no S) has no magnet at all. For new projects order the ACEJ12X20 and confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.
