This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ACEJ12X20-20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ACEJ12X20-20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ACPJ Adjustable Compact Cylinder ACPJ12X20-20SB is a double acting, adjustable stroke DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X20-20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This ACPJ12X20-20SB is a discontinued double acting compact cylinder with an adjustable extend stroke: a stop screw trims the 20 mm stroke anywhere within the ordered 20 mm window, giving a usable range of 0-20 mm. The 12 mm bore delivers 56.5 N push and 42.4 N pull at 0.5 MPa (79.2 N / 59.4 N at 0.7 MPa), with a theoretical peak of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The male-threaded rod (B code) and the fitted -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches make it a tight fit for sensor-equipped micro fixtures.
The hard-anodized aluminium body carries M5x0.8 ports and a fixed TPU bumper at each end, running 30-500 mm/s on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi). Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim pick-and-place heads and guarded stations. For sizing, treat roughly 34 N (about 3.4 kg of push) as the practical working force at 0.5 MPa, or expect it to lift about 2.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that the stop screw sets the end of travel only - on air loss the piston still drifts. Production has ended; the current drop-in is the ACEJ12X20, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ACEJ12X20-20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 57 N | 42 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 79 N | 59 N |
| Max (@1.0 MPa) | 12 kgf | |
The ACEJ12X20-20SB produces the same force from the same bore. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

|---|---|
| 12 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| -20 | Adjustable stroke window (mm the extend stroke can be shortened on site). |

| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Trims the extend stroke down to a few millimetres to nudge 2-3 kg stamped or moulded micro parts off a nest without overtravel.
The fitted magnet drives CMSE or DMSE switches to confirm clamp and release on small electronic assemblies at up to 500 mm/s.
The short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, clamps PCB or connector housings inside cramped drill jigs.
At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force step in the ACPJ range: 56.5 N push at 0.5 MPa versus 100.5 N from a 16 mm bore and 157.1 N from a 20 mm bore. Choose it when the load stays under about 34 N of real work; step up a bore if your part weight or friction load exceeds that. The male rod thread suits direct tooling attachment, and the fitted -S magnet lets CMSE / DMSE switches report end positions. FA/FB flange and LB foot mountings bolt to the standard face. Since this model is discontinued, order the ACEJ12X20 as the current-production equivalent and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes 56.5 N and pulls 42.4 N; at 0.7 MPa those rise to 79.2 N and 59.4 N, with a theoretical maximum of 11.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa. In practice plan on about 34 N of usable push (roughly 3.4 kg of work) at 0.5 MPa, or about 2.9 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 safety margin. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) and speed is 30-500 mm/s.
An external stop screw shortens the extend stroke on site by up to 20 mm, so travel can be set anywhere from 0 to 20 mm; it cannot extend past the ordered stroke and it is not a mid-stroke lock, so the rod still drifts if air is lost. The ACPJ family is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ACEJ12X20 in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ACP was built to a DIN standard.
